Recently, the Hunan Provincial Bureau of Quality Supervision officially issued the Hunan Provincial Local Standard "General Specification for Ecological Home Improvement Projects", which will be officially implemented on March 1 this year. This is also my country's first local standard for ecological home improvement.
Formaldehyde exceeds the limit, up to 12 times the national limit
In July 2014, the Hunan Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau launched the "Clean the Room" campaign and launched free indoor air quality testing activities for Changsha citizens. More than 5,000 households have signed up to participate. The Hunan Provincial Quality Inspection Institute selected 400 eligible for testing. Hu Xinju is the subject of inspection.
On the morning of February 10, the Hunan Provincial Bureau of Quality Supervision announced the results of this test. There are 4 indicators tested this time, namely formaldehyde, benzene, toluene and xylene. There are 283 households that meet the indoor air quality standard, accounting for 70.8%, and 117 households that do not meet the standard, accounting for 29.2%.
After statistical analysis of the test results, the main problem of indoor air quality in newly decorated houses is excessive formaldehyde. From the analysis of inspection items, among the 117 new houses that did not meet the standard, 111 households had excessive formaldehyde content, accounting for 94.9%; 2 households each had excessive benzene, toluene, and xylene content, accounting for 1.7%. Among them, the highest formaldehyde content is 1.23mg/m3, which is 12 times the national standard limit. In this "clean room" operation, the Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau also conducted a special inspection of decoration materials.

On February 10, the Hunan Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau officially released the Hunan Provincial Local Standard "General Specification for Ecological Home Improvement Projects." It is understood that the "General Specification for Ecological Home Improvement Projects" was formulated by the Hunan Provincial Quality Inspection Institute based on its own experience in thousands of indoor air quality inspections and combined with Hunan's climate conditions.
The "Specification" incorporates environmental hot spots that consumers have paid attention to in recent years, such as negative ion concentration, PM2.5 and other quality indicators, and reduces the formaldehyde content in indoor air from the national standard ≤0.33,.08mg/m to ≤ 0.06mg/m. The promulgation of the "Specifications" will play a positive role in regulating the construction and acceptance standards of interior decoration and decoration in the whole province, and ensuring the home safety of consumers.

How to do home improvement with confidence? Xiao Bei, director of the Supervision Department of Hunan Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau, reminded that for newly decorated houses, you must choose a qualified and regular inspection agency that uses standard testing methods to conduct an indoor air quality test. If there is a quality problem, do not buy blindly or over-believe in a wide range of treatment products. The more reliable method is to open more windows for ventilation or delay the check-in time. Putting more green plants, grapefruit peel, activated carbon, etc. in the room is also a simple and easy way to clean up pollution.
In addition, when purchasing decoration materials, you must carefully check the factory name, location, quality level, production date and other signs and product manuals, and at the same time ask the merchant for shopping vouchers to keep evidence.
